On August 2nd Stephan Büchler came to Burgundy to visit us and tell us his last sporting achievement...
Gold medal !
After two medals at the 2008 and 2009 Extremity Games, Stephan Büchler brilliantly won the gold medal for mountain-biking at the 5th Extremity Games on June 24-25, 2011.
At New Braunfels in Texas, the course was a 2,74 km loop that should be covered five times, i.e. over 15 km. It was a combination of downhill and cross-country.
Stephan points out that "the weather was hot : we used to start at 10 a.m. and at that time the temperature was already over 30 degrees".
15 competitors on the starting line
After a confident start and a very hard run in hot weather, Stephan mounted on the top step of the podium. The 5th Extremity Games turned him into the first world champion of extreme racers with transfemoral amputation.
He distinguished himself not only by his speed, but also by figures and other achievements that are specific to this sport. "I was the only competitors who could do wheelies"...
He greets all the competitors: "all of them were good", especially Carlos Garcia (second) and Pete O'Brien (third) of the transfemoral amputees group, who shared the podium with him.
Our components used by extreme sportsmen
Stephan is fitted with our Hydeal knee and our Dyna C energy return foot. He pointed out "I had no technical problems. The competitors had not heard about Hydeal, but they have been impressed by the achievements I reached with it".
We congratulate our champion and we wish him much success in the future.
Before leaving, Stephan showed us some figures for which he has a gift....
